Happy Valentine's Day!

In the past, I used to send out a mass email to a bunch of people every year on Valentine's Day with the lyrics to the song "The Rose" as performed by Bette Midler. I stopped after sending out a dozen "roses" because that was a good number to end it at. Now that I have a blog, I will just post the lyrics here once a year for another dozen years.

THE ROSE
Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Update on the Super Tuesday Primary Office Pool

It feels good to win. Surprisingly, I finished first in the office pool with 29 correct picks, 2 more than my closest competitor. Too bad we only had 8 entries because a lot of people did not read the polls or the tea leaves over the weekend. Still, it feels good to win regardless of the number of participants.

Super Bowl Office pool

As a co-worker pointed out yesterday, our office is a bunch of nerds. Who has office pools for presidential politics!? We had one for the Iowa caucuses. Another for the New Hampshire primary. And now the big one for the super duper tuesday primaries. But we are not all nerds.

Our office also has an office pool for the Super Bowl. An office pool for jocks as my co-worker would say. The random numbers were drawn today after I bought two boxes out of the one hundred box grid. The boxes I currently have are 8-7 Pats-Giants and 1-5 Pats-Giants. So I will win money if at the end of the first quarter, half, third quarter or final score ends with some score like 18-7 Patriots or 17-8 Giants. In any event, the game should be a good one to watch if for no other reason than the fact that the Patriots are one game from a perfect season.
